1936  At the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, Picasso offers his services to the lawful government of the Spanish Republic and is appointed Director of the Prado.

1936  Meets Dora Maar, a photographer linked to the Surrealist movement

1937  Paints Guernica

1941  Writes his first play, El deseo atrapado por la cola (Desire Caught by the Tail)

1944  Begins association with Communist Party

1960  The Picasso Museum of Barcelona is set up by an agreement in Barcelona City Council, Barcelona, Spain

1973  Died in Notre Dame de Vie, in Mougins, France
